ASUS Laptop for $169 at Walmart Online, marked down from
$400 ($Cdn). [...] and the computer is Military grade so
you can drop it or dump water on it without hurting it, so
it seemed a good buy.
I doubt "military grade", but maybe built with solid metals and
>less plastic.
It's a little clunky looking with the squared off rubber edges.
The main body is still plastic but maybe it's more solidly built
internally and, unusual these days, it's held together with
screws through the back rather than just snapping together.
The actual quote was that it meets or exceeds MIL-STD-810H
durability standards, which is not quite the same as being a
military computer but, I would assume, they were tested at
some point to make sure they meet those specified durability
standards in that identifier or they'd be in a lot of trouble
for claiming it does.
It's really intended more for students and others who tend to
be pretty hard on Laptops at times.
Reviews said that it is made from tough plastic and rubber to
absorb impacts and protect it from damage from 'bumps, drops
and spills', but they warn it's not a gaming machine, which I
knew since it doesn't have a high end processor and such..
The things I do on a computer, and the old games I play, will
run fine on much older, slower systems so I think it should do
what I want without any problem.
